17th Annual Gingerbread House Display & Competition
November 22 - January 4

New home, same tradition! After 16 dazzling years at PPG Place, the annual Gingerbread House Display & Competition moves to the Grand Lobby of the City-County Building. Returning this year, see a model train display! The miniature locomotives will weave through over 450 delectable gingerbread dwellings underneath the historic 47-foot barrel vaulted Grand Lobby ceiling.

About the Ice Rink

The ice rink at PPG Place first opened in December 2001, and was replaced with a larger rink during the 2015-2016 season.

The $1 million ice rink is 116’ x 116’ which makes it 67% larger than the ice rink in Rockefeller Center, New York City. The rink is approximately two-thirds the size of a standard National Hockey League rink.

Skating Lessons & Pro Shop Services

Skating lessons are available for all ages and ability levels. For more information, call the rink office at (412) 394-3641.

Skate sharpening is available in the skate rental office for $10 per pair.

Group Rates & Parties

Parties and group rates are available for public and private skating parties. Packages may include admission, skate rental, and food packages, and gift certificates are available.


Spirits of Giving from Around the World Exhibit

Pittsburgh Crèche
November 22 - Early January

Visit Pittsburgh’s larger than life-sized replication of the Crèche located in St. Peter’s Square in Rome’s Vatican City, artfully recreated and on display every season since 2000. The Crèche is a stop on the Fifth Avenue Place Holly Trolley, and is open daily.


A Very Merry Pittsburgh

Relive cherished holiday memories and make new ones at the Heinz History Center’s new exhibition, A Very Merry Pittsburgh.

A Very Merry Pittsburgh will include a special section featuring family keepsakes, artifacts, film, and imagery that explore how Western Pennsylvanians have celebrated major winter holidays, including Christmas, Chanukah, and Kwanzaa, through the years.
