The BNY Mellon New Music Stage is bringing together some of Pittsburgh’s most talked-about local talent for a night of R&B, funk, and indie rock. Kicking off the night will be Beauty Slap, a crowd favorite that blends traditional brass horns with contemporary dance music. Also on stage: Tribe Eternal, an R&B collaboration featuring vocalist Clara Kent, and Krunk Movement.

BNY Mellon Season of Lights
5:45 p.m. & throughout the evening

Countdown with Santa as he flips the giant switch to the dazzling BNY Mellon Season of Lights Display. Then, enjoy a dazzling display as choreographed lights dance across the buildings in Market Square, set to a medley of your favorite holiday songs.

Light show occurs every half-hour between entertainers.

Experience a one-of-a-kind shopping village as you stroll through an illuminated Market Square, weaving through wooden chalets, brimming with high-quality gifts and holiday experiences.

Fifth Avenue Place

Located at the corner of Fifth & Liberty Avenues in the heart of the Cultural and Central Business Districts, Fifth Avenue Place is home to unique Specialty Shops, Food Court Eateries and the WELCOME Pittsburgh Information Center and Gift Shop.

Visit Pittsburgh’s very own Nostalgic Toyland Frozen in Time at the Fifth Avenue FREEZE! Discover a shimmering display featuring Ice Childhood Toys! Get up close and snap photos with our Ice Teddy Bear, Train, Building Blocks, Rocking Horse, and more. And enjoy live ice carving shows by award-winning master ice carver Rich Bubin of Ice Creations.

Family Fun & Festivities

Show your holiday spirit with a commemorative airbrush tattoo. Snap photos with the cheeriest Raggedy Ann and enjoy festive balloon art as you get in the holiday spirit with live musical performances by the Roger Barbour Jazz Quartet from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Cross/Current from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Mr. McFeely, Pittsburgh’s favorite delivery man, will be greeting visitors from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Pittsburgh’s Christmas Tree Lighting

Join City of Pittsburgh officials, local choirs, and brass bands to celebrate the lighting of Pittsburgh's official Christmas Tree, first erected in 1915. For 103 years since, a beautiful 60-foot live evergreen has graced the front steps of our seat of government.

City-County Building Lightshow
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Immediately following the tree lighting, and every 30 minutes through 8:00 p.m. the façade of the City-County Building will come to life with holiday magic! The musically timed City-County Building Lightshow will dazzle viewers with changing patterns of light and color set to the sounds of the holiday season.

Gingerbread House Display & Competition
6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

New home, same tradition! After 16 dazzling years at PPG Place, the annual Gingerbread House Display & Competition will move to the Grand Lobby of the City-County Building this year. The 17th year will not only see a new home, but the return of old favorites. And, returning this year, miniature locomotives will weave through over 450 delectable gingerbread dwellings underneath the historic 47-foot barrel vaulted Grand Lobby ceiling.

The display will open to the public on Comcast Light Up Night® and will remain on display through early January. Details and extended holiday hours at the City-County Building are available online at pittsburghpa.gov/gingerbread.

City-County Building Holiday Tours
6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The City of Pittsburgh is proud to open the doors of the historic City-County Building to the public, allowing a unique behind the scenes look at the seat of Pittsburgh’s government when decorated in its holiday best! Guests will have the opportunity to visit the Council Chamber, the rarely opened Pittsburgh Government Vault, the Hall of Mayor’s, and the Office of the Mayor (the second home to every Pittsburgh chief executive for more than 100 years).

 

Annual Tree Lighting and Santa’s Arrival
5:45 p.m.

Don’t miss the official lighting of One Oxford Centre’s 30-foot Christmas Tree. Children can welcome Santa and share their Christmas wishes!

Free Horse Drawn Carriage Rides
6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Take a ride around the block in a beautifully decorated, historic horse-drawn carriage. Pick up is on Fourth Avenue (last ride at 8:45 p.m.).

Santa’s Reindeer and Free Activities
6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Santa’s trusty reindeer will greet you in the outdoor plaza. Free indoor activities for children include face painting, balloon art, temporary tattoos, a selfie station, and caricatures.

PPG Place & MassMutual Pittsburgh Ice Rink

Spirit of Giving from Around the World Exhibit

New location! Enjoy the exhibit at Two PPG Place and the One PPG Place lobby. A display of 16 life-size Santas and original paintings depicting holiday traditions are on display from around the globe.

RMU Island Sports Figure Skating
4:45 p.m.

Robert Morris University Island Sport Center’s Figure Skating Academy opens the evening’s festivities with a holiday skating show.

East End Kids
5:00 p.m.

This talented local group kicks off the evening’s festivities with a musical performance.

American Cancer Society’s Tribute of Light Ceremony & PPG Plaza Tree Lighting
5:30 - 6:00 p.m.

The plaza will glow as more than 300 people carry hand-held Tribute of Light Memorials, dedicated to someone touched by cancer. The ceremony culminates with a young cancer survivor lighting the breathtaking 65-foot Plaza Christmas tree. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Guitar virtuoso Byron Nash plays the sounds of the season.

The majestic home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is open to all on Comcast Light Up Night® with tree displays and orchestra concerts.

 

Free Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Concerts
6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will once again open the doors to Heinz Hall for several free short concerts. Guests are invited to enjoy holiday classics from Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Prokofiev, and more. The concerts will last about 30 minutes and visitors may pop in at any time.
